The right trench coat
Length, lining, and the quiet details that separate a keeper from a passing trend.

A trench coat should solve a problem — rain, wind, the gap between seasons — without announcing itself. The right one disappears into a wardrobe and reappears for decades.
Length is the first decision. Too short and it reads as fashion; too long and it swallows. Just below the knee suits most frames and most occasions. The belt should be substantial enough to hold a shape; the storm flap should lie flat, not flare.
